Would you like the opportunity to develop your parenting skills into a career or education opportunity, or just to help other parents starting on their parenting journey? At Home-Start, you don’t need any special qualifications to volunteer, just your own experience. We offer free accredited 25 hour training so you can get a recognised external learning certificate from Skills & Education Group, Home-Start will support you through every step of the recruitment and training process, including an enhanced DBS check, two written references, and all travel expenses paid during training and once you are volunteering. Once you have done the training, you can choose which area of the city you want to volunteer in, which day and time suits you, and the type of family situations you feel most comfortable working with. Home-Start has been supporting families in Hull since 1982. We offer weekly home-visiting support to families for 2-3 hours per session, as well as phone and group support, so there is a volunteering opportunity to suit you depending how much time you have available. Support is generally during school hours (no evenings and weekends) and many volunteers support during term time only as they have their own children to take care of during the school holidays. Volunteers have gone on to complete teaching qualifications, health & social care, gained employment in family support roles, nurseries, social care, teaching assistants and mental health nurses/ nurses, all as a direct result of the experience and training they have received as a volunteer with Home-Start.
