Launch of Hull’s Milk Trail
Representatives from Public Health, Humber NHS Foundation Trust, St Stephens Shopping Centre, US Mums Hull Pregnancy Group and Breastfeeding Peer Supporters joined together to cut the ribbon to celebrate the launch of the Hull Milk Trail in St Stephens Shopping Centre.
The trail brings together nine of Hull’s city centre venues who have supported this project and it’s hoped the positive relationships built will help support future health promotion work within the city.
The trail is pitched at families as a fun and educational activity; the primary objective is to raise awareness of breastfeeding-friendly premises and normalise breastfeeding, with secondary objectives of engaging families with local attractions and walking.
The key element of the trail is a printed map, which lists all nine venues, along with a quiz on fun facts around breastfeeding. The map can be picked up from all Family Hubs, the venues taking part in the trail, and from the Welcome to Hull Information kiosk The map has details of breastfeeding support and a link highlighting over 120 breastfeeding friendly venues across the city.
Mums and babies from US Mums Hull and Breastfeeding Peer Support groups took part, walking around the different venues in the city centre, discovering facts about the benefits of breastfeeding.
Initial feedback from the people who took part in the trail has been great, “wonderful!” stated one mum.
The Milk Trail is fun to do, free and can be done at anyone’s pace. Those getting involved do not need to have breastfed or be currently breastfeeding to take part – everyone is invited. The map can be picked up from any of the Family Hubs, the Tourist Information stand in Paragon Interchange Station and any of the venues on the Milk Trail.
