Make a difference and volunteer at a Family Hub

Acorns and Longhill Family Hub would like to recognise the huge impact volunteers have on a Family Hub. With growing numbers using the hubs, volunteers help support the team and families.

Kerry is a local parent and back in 2022 she started attending the Incredible Years program held at Acorn Family Hub, from this she went on to join other sessions, seeing their importance Kerry wanted to get involved so started volunteering and has now become a valued member of the team.

Said Kerry, “I heard about the Incredible Years course at Acorns and I thought that this would give me the knowledge that I wanted to be able to parent the way that I wanted to.

“From this, I gained a huge understanding of how children behave and react, and how we respond can have a massive impact.

“In the beginning, I was so anxious about attending, but then with the support from Jenny and Debbie at Acorns, I built up the confidence to not only attend the coffee morning at Acorns, but to run my own as a volunteer, alongside volunteering to aid with the Learn Through Play session with Megan.”

Said Megan, Family Support Worker, “Kerry has made such a difference, she began volunteering to set up and deliver the Parent Meet up group at Longhill Family Hub every Tuesday morning during term time between 9.30 to 11.30am.

“Kerry also organised a fantastic opportunity for the group to go on a trip to York on the train.

“The Parent Meet up group is going from strength to strength and continues to grow every week. It is a friendly group open to everyone, just pop in, there is no need to book.

"Kerry also supports the team and helps me to deliver the Learn Through Play session at Acorns Family Hub on a Thursday morning.

“A big thank you to Kerry from all at Acorns and Longhill Family Hub, for all that you do and bring to our team.”

If you would like to volunteer, go into your local Family Hub and speak to one of the team.
