Co-sleeping
We need to talk about co-sleeping!
The reality is that many parents will co-sleep with their baby. At some point -
- either by choice
- by accident
So it’s important that everyone knows the advice on how to co-sleep. Co-sleeping is especially dangerous in certain situations. The Lullaby Trust advises that you never co-sleep if any of these apply -
- your baby was born prematurely (before 37 weeks of pregnancy)
- your baby weighed under 2.5kg or 5 ½ lbs at birth
- anyone in the bed smokes (even if they don’t do it in the bedroom)
- anyone in the bed has drunk any alcohol or taken drugs
- any of the adults in the bed has taken any medication which makes them feel sleepy
In these scenarios, it is always best to put baby in their own -
- clear
- flat
- separate safe sleep space
