Getting breastfeeding off to a good start

Skin to skin is a great way to welcome your baby to the world. It has many benefits including helping to keep your baby warm, comforted and settled. It is a lovely bonding experience enjoyed by all parents and is a great time to give your baby his or her first feed. Remember you can continue skin to skin at any time after birth.

You should meet a baby feeding practitioner in hospital or after a home birth. They can offer you -

  • breastfeeding information
  • advice and support

To help you get things off to a good start, they will also keep in touch every 2-3 days to make sure things are going well. From day ten they will signpost you for ongoing support.
